PMA 2010 Committees

For nearly a half century, the Property Management Association has been the leading source of practical education in the national capital area property management industry. The Association's tremendous record of accomplishment is largely attributed to the outstanding efforts of committees. Committees represent the lifeblood of PMA, performing the work of the organization and/or directing its performance. Committee service offers unique benefits and skills that improve the quality of service Members provide to their companies, their clients and the residents and tenants who live and work at their properties.



Program and Seminar Committee


Chair: Toni Harris (DARO Realty)
Vice-Chair: Jill Franquelli (Bozzuto Management)

Responsibilities: Plans PMA monthly meeting topics, formats and speakers. Presents PMA's mini-seminars, half-day seminars, roundtables and other educational programming. Members also are responsible for developing and updating contract guideline documents.

Opportunities: Committee members can track trends, determine needs and interact with industry leaders who PMA selects to deliver meeting keynote addresses. Committee members also are responsible for investigating and recommending alternative formats for meetings, speakers and programs. Recognize and proactively respond to the educational needs of the industry. Implement multi-tiered educational training that addresses the needs of entry-level, mid-level and senior-level staff. Improve operational skills in areas such as maintenance, marketing and cost control.

Meetings: The Programs and Seminars Committee usually meets the third Friday of the month at 2pm in the PMA office. Zakiya Kainu (Southern Management Corporation) is the Board liaison.

PMEXPO Committee


Chairs: Bill Geoffrion (Equity Management, Inc.) and Jami Castillo (Flooring Services, Inc.)

Responsibilities: Plan, manage and promote PMEXPO. Oversee exhibitor training, auctions and special events.

Opportunities: Determine the efficacy of a unique partnering marketing program between exhibitors and PMA. Determine the most significant operational needs of the industry and develop strategies to meet them. Obtain event planning, marketing and promotional skills.

Meetings: The PMEXPO Committee meets at different times and places.

Membership Committee


Chair: Kimberly Cueva (Polinger Shannon & Luchs)
Vice Chair: Luz Aljami (Polinger Shannon & Luchs)

Responsibilities: Develops and implements PMA's annual membership recruitment effort, reviews applications, and implements retention programs. The Committee also is responsible for organizing and presenting PMA Member Orientations.

Opportunities: Learn how to develop and implement marketing programs. Learn how to develop and implement direct mail marketing efforts. Learn how to develop and implement performance incentive programs. Learn presentation skills.

Meetings: The Membership Committee usually meets the second Friday of the month at the Rollins-Congressional Club at 10am. Walter Klinger (Borger Management, Inc.) is the Board liaison.

Community Service Committee


Chair: Rasheedah Ahmed (InterSolutions, Inc.)
Vice-Chair: Carrie Ehart (Raine & Son)

Responsibilities: The Committee's mission is to capitalize on PMA members' management expertise to improve the quality of space where people live and/or work and to provide mediums for members to serve their community.

Opportunities: Obtain marketing, motivation and public relations skills. Obtain a tremendous sense of personal satisfaction from helping those who are less fortunate than yourself.

Meetings: The Community Service Committee usually meets the first Wednesday of the month in the PMA office at 11:30am. Leo Haslbeck (CuraFlo Mid Atlantic, Inc.) is the Board liaison.

Associate Membership Council


Chair: Ted Ross (Ted Ross Consulting)
Chair-Elect: Leo Haslbeck (Curaflo Mid-Atlantic)
Vice Chair: Geoff Ogden (JPI)

Responsibilities: The Associate Membership Council's mission is to promote and represent the interest of Associate Members in support of PMA's mission statement and provide Associate Members with resources for professional development.

Opportunities: Make invaluable networking contacts that can lead to increased business. Expand your sales and presentation skills. Learn how to capitalize on opportunities in the property management industry.

Meetings: The Associate Council meets every second Tuesday of the month.

Spring Break Committee


Co-Chairs: Josh Bortnick (Big Stuff, Inc.) and David Hollingsworth (Arc Water Treatment Company of Maryland, Inc.)

Responsibilities: The Committee plans and oversees PMA's annual golf/tennis/volleyball outing.

Opportunities: Obtain event planning skills, and develop and implement marketing programs.

Meetings: The Spring Break Committee meets at different times and places. Bob Turner (Allen & Rocks, Inc.) is the Board liaison.

Holiday Ball Committee


Chair: Chrystal Brown (DARO Realty, Inc.)
Co-Chair: Tony Curtis (Classic Concierge)

Responsibilities: Plans and conducts the industry's most spectacular and enjoyable holiday gala.

Opportunities: Obtain event planning skills, develop and implement marketing programs and develop and implement fundraising programs.

Meetings: The Holiday Ball Committee meets monthly.

August Social Committee


Co-Chairs: Dani Bressler (Toepfer Construction Company) and Ann Tran (Washington Post Property Management Group)

Responsibilities: Determine the theme and coordinate activities and sponsorships for this outstanding networking event.

Opportunities: Obtain event planning skills, develop and implement marketing programs and develop and implement fundraising programs.

Meetings: The August Social Committee meets at different times and places.

Marketing Directors' Council


Chair: Amber Chadwick (Berkshire Property Advisors)
Co-Chair: Carissa Barry (Van Metre Companies)

Responsibilities: Develop the program for the annual leasing and marketing summit. Create networking opportunities for marketing professionals to exchange ideas, discuss common challenges and improve individual and corporate performance. Develop programs and educational offerings that provide practical marketing education. Oversee the annual Marketing and Advertising Excellence Awards program.

Opportunities: Improve marketing skills. Expand creative capabilities. Access a network of savvy, seasoned professionals that can serve as a resource for new idea generation and to resolve common problems. Enhance event management capabilities.

Meetings: The Marketing Council meets quarterly.

Operations Council

Responsibilities: Develop the program for the annual maintenance summit. Create networking opportunities for operations professionals to exchange ideas, discuss common challenges and improve individual and corporate performance. Develop programs and educational offerings that provide practical education. Oversee an annual awards program that recognizes outstanding performance.

Meetings: The Operations Council meets on the second Thursday of the month at the Bozzuto Management office at 1pm. Scott Skokan (Bozzuto Management Company) is the Board liaison.

Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Council

Chair: Kristin Larimore (Equity Management, Inc.)
Vice Chair: Traci Wallace (Edgewood Management Corporation)

Responsibilities: The Council’s mission is to provide a forum to discuss issues and common problems with the management and operation of low-income housing tax credit properties and properties with tax credit units. The Council will manage the annual HCCP training course and offer specialized training tracks that address the nuances of managing different tax credit and low-income housing programs.

Meetings: The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Council meets quarterly. Anthony Faircloth (Equity Management) is the Board liaison.

Commercial Council

Co-Chairs: Marianne Pukal (Polinger Shannon & Luchs), Robert Burgess (Advanced Building Engineering Services), Bonnie Morrison (Foulger-Pratt Management, Inc.) and Tricia Culpepper (Saul Centers)

Responsibilities: The Commercial Council's mission is to promote and represent the interest of Commercial Management Members and provide practical education and resources for professional development. The Council plans building tours, demonstrations, training sessions and roundtable discussions.

Opportunities: Make networking contacts for business exchange through panel discussions, roundtables, tours and demonstrations. The Council also provides targeted seminars for commercial managers.

Meetings: The Commercial Council meets quarterly.

Human Resource Council

Chair: Stacy Cohen (Axent Realty Group)

Responsibilities: The Human Resources Council plans roundtable meetins and seminars on topics relevant to human resources and oversees the AOBA-PMA Wage and Benefit Survey.
