PMA Profile: Zakiya Kainu

2012 PMA President Zakiya Kainu started her property management career in 1993 and currently is property manager with Southern Management Corporation. Zakiya joined PMA in 1999 and served as a co-chair and chair of the Holiday Ball Committee, and the chair of the Membership Committee. In 2008 she was elected to the PMA Board of Directors. While serving on the Board, her primary focus has been to increase membership participation in PMA committees and councils along with advancement and improvement of PMA. Zakiya’s professional accomplishments and commitment to the Association earned her the PMA President’s awards for 2006 and 2007. She also was the recipient of the 2009 PMA Vision Award and in 2010 was named the PMA Property Management Professional of the Year. She was also selected to participate in the PMA leadership program and served on MPEA board of examiners in 2007. Zakiya is actively involved in the life of her community and has been a long-time volunteer for the American Red Cross of the national capital area.
