John Raftery will present a fair housing training program on June 16 on behalf of PMA. John is a partner in the Bethesda-based law firm Deckelbaum, Ogens and Raftery where he specializes in the areas of landlord-tenant law, fair housing and commercial law and collections. He is an experienced fair housing trainer, providing practical guidance to help property managers, property management firm executives, site managers, leasing consultants and others responsible for leasing apartment communities comply with fair housing requirements. PMA has applied for three hours of continuing fair housing education credit for the June 16 program from the District of Columbia Real Estate Commission.

The program addresses practical issues related to day-to-day fair housing compliance issues, including:

  • Typical Fair Housing Complaints and How to Avoid Them

  • The Tremendous Cost of a Fair Housing Violation

  • Occupancy Standards that Lead to Fair Housing Claims and Allegations

  • Sexual Harassment Claims Caused by Site Staff Actions

  • Fair Housing and Criminal Activity, e.g., Drugs

  • Fair Housing and ADA

  • Fair Housing and Resident Profiling in a Post 9/11 World

  • Advertising Mistakes that Lead to Fair Housing Claims

  • Guest Card Practices that Can Lead to Fair Housing Claims

  • Common Management Rules for Children that Violate Fair Housing Standards
