Community Ambassador
A Leadership Role that Shapes PMA’s Impact, Strengthens Connections, and Elevates the Member Experience
The Community Ambassador is a strategic leadership role within PMA designed to strengthen engagement, representation, and alignment across committees. Community Ambassadors serve as a bridge between committees, staff, and the Board of Directors—ensuring that PMA’s programs, conversations, and leadership pipeline reflect the full diversity of our membership.
WHAT THIS ROLE IS (AND IS NOT):
The Community Ambassador role IS:

- A strategic leadership position
- A culture-building role within PMA
- A mechanism for identifying and developing future leaders
- A bridge between committees and the Board
The Community Ambassador role IS NOT:

- Administrative or attendance tracking
- A ceremonial or passive role
- A stand-alone DEI function disconnected from operations
CORE FOCUS AREAS:
1. Understand & Apply PMA Member Personas

- Analyze committee composition and identify missing perspectives
- Ensure representation across roles, company types, experience levels, and backgrounds
- Use personas to inform programming, messaging, and priorities
2. Assess Committee Engagement & Dynamics

- Observe participation patterns (who contributes, who doesn’t, who dominates)
- Identify engagement gaps and emerging leaders
- Encourage participation and leadership growth
3. Tailor Programming, Benefits & Messaging

- Partner with committee leadership to align programming with member needs
- Provide input on timing, format, accessibility, and communication strategies
4. Encourage Balanced & Inclusive Participation

- Create space for quieter or newer voices
- Support respectful, productive dialogue
- Ensure accessibility across experience levels and communication styles
5. Support Meaningful Contribution

- Identify ways members can engage between meetings
- Recommend volunteers for projects and leadership opportunities
- Create clear on-ramps for new participants
6. Reflect, Evaluate & Improve

- Assess what’s working and what can improve after key initiatives
- Help establish 2–3 annual priorities
- Support continuous improvement across committee efforts
7. Monitor Progress & Provide Feedback

- Track trends in participation and representation
- Provide observations to staff and Board leadership
- Contribute to a structured feedback loop across PMA
COMMITMENT DETAILS:
- Term: January 1 to December 31.
- Meetings: Attend your committee's monthly meeting (typically 1 hour, virtual). Participate in quarterly ambassador meetings (typically 1 hour, virtual).
- Additional Involvement: Allocate 1-2 hours per month for additional discussions, meetings and training sessions as necessary.
COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR REQUIREMENTS:
- Company Support: Ensure your company supports and allocates resources for your involvement in PMA, including financial support for membership and participation in events and programs.
- Availability: Commit to attending meetings and participating in additional discussions and training sessions as necessary.
- Training: Participate in an annual kickoff training session and periodic check-ins throughout the year to support alignment and effectiveness in the role.
APPLICATION PROCESS: Complete the Online Statement of Interest Form.
While Community Ambassadors serve one-year terms from January 1 through December 31, members are encouraged to submit a Statement of Interest at any time throughout the year.
Statements of Interest for the upcoming leadership cycle are typically due by August 31. Submissions will be considered during the next planning cycle or as vacancies arise.
